16 December 2005 Xerox. The OriginalXerox. The Original

    NONSTORY ON ZUMA

    Sy Makaringe, Weltevreden Park.

One of the things that attracted me to buy a copy of your December 9 edition was this cover teaser: "Zuma's fall: who stands to benefit."

Given the stature of your magazine, I was hoping the story would give us, the readers, a fresh insight into the leadership battles within the African National Congress. How wrong I was!

Instead, the story mentioned the usual suspects - Joel Netshitenzhe, Tokyo Sexwale, Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, Kgalema Motlanthe and Cyril Ramaphosa - as possible candidates to fill the vacuum that would be left by the departure of ANC deputy president Jacob Zuma in the light of the rape charge he is facing.

It was basically a rehash of a version I've read a million times before. For me it was effectively a nonstory and a waste of valuable editorial space.

I never thought there would come a day when the FM would give room to such sloppy journalism.
