    SECRET AGENDAS

    Morgan Phaahla, Ekurhuleni.

The tensions in the liberation movement are unsettling and not healthy for our democracy. Legitimate protests have become violent and unjust actions, whereas activism has been substituted by plotting fraught with crass materialism. Conspiracies and secret agendas have taken precedence, with the saga of ANC deputy president Jacob Zuma being the consequence.

What is of great concern is the manner in which comrades who align themselves with the voice of dissent are being treated by law enforcement agencies.

We have observed the national prosecuting authority consciously breaking some laws and selectively obeying others to the detriment of our everyday legal practice.

At the same time the criminal justice system is being turned into a cheque-book prosecution, violating the ideal of equality enshrined in the constitution.

In the midst of all this, critical and investigative journalism is being replaced by opportunism susceptible to inducements.

The brutal killing of those who pose a threat to the agenda of the elitist grouping is now not uncommon.

The cruel murders of Chris Hani and Brett Kebble remain ambiguous.

Who gained from all these misdeeds or casualties? Like the old adage says, every cloud has a silver lining.
