AME is riding high on a surge in the popularity of its radio stations, Algoa FM in the Eastern Cape and OFM in the Free State. Algoa, whose audience jumped 51% to 644 000, was SA's fastest-growing station in the key high-income sector. OFM upped its audience 25% to 578 000. Other indicators include a 50% jump in second-half operating profit and strong growth in advertising bookings. The new year may also see closure of AME's R25m bid for 25% of Kaya FM. Failing this, AME will return some of its R24m cash pile to shareholders.
