With the silly season upon us, Microsoft will be hoping for a bumper sales season for its Xbox 360 gaming console. If you have children, you probably already know more about the Xbox 360 - thanks to their persistent nagging - than I do. The console, which Microsoft introduced to SA a couple of months ago to compete with Sony's PlayStation 2 (and forthcoming PlayStation 3), is an impressive gaming machine. The eye candy in some games, such as the new Gears of War, is spectacular. But you'll want a high-definition TV, which displays higher-resolution pictures, to enjoy the experience properly - all Xbox 360 games are designed for HD.

The Xbox 360 is more than just a gaming machine, though. It plays DVDs and you can hook up your iPod to it.

On the downside, the choice of games is fairly limited. And there's no SA version of the Xbox Live online gaming system. The unit's power supply is also bulky and its cooling fan noisy.
