    WINNERS & LOSERS

    LOSER

    Simon Sussman

CEO of Woolworths, which lost its 36th place in the JSE's Top 40 index to construction firm Aveng, though he and other retailers are not to blame that construction companies are coining it while they aren't.

    LOSER

    Kgosi Letlape

SA Medical Association chief for asking for more than the proposed 5,4% increase in medical tariffs. It's a terrible about-turn from the man who once decried high prices as "health-care apartheid".

    WINNER

    Richard Friedland

CEO of Netcare, for expanding its UK acquisitions to 58 with last week's takeover of Nuffield Hospitals. It's already the largest independent group and will now be able to enter new private markets.

    WINNER

    Loyiso Nongxa

Wits vice-chancellor for the institution going up 40 places - from 322 to 282 in The Times Education Supplement rankings. It's slow, but definitely steady progress towards making the top 100.
