    Platinum upside?

The JSE platinum miners' index has enjoyed a strong rally from the lows of October 2008. Since the start of this year, the platinum miners have been pulling back. A lot of the recent weakness has been caused by a pullback in the platinum price after a strong run from the US dollar. That has caused weakness in the prices of most major commodities.

The JSE platinum miners' index is now at an interesting support level created by the strong 18-month uptrend, as well as the 200-day moving average. Platinum stocks may find support. Investors should consider buying Anglo Platinum at current levels. It is holding a rights issue that should reduce its debt significantly, putting the company in a stronger position to take advantage of future growth opportunities.
