Trevor Manuel 13 years






He started out an economic outsider whose appointment sparked a huge sell-off of the rand. Now, after 13 budget speeches he is one of the world's most respected finance ministers.

Under his steady leadership, SA moved from a debt trap in the early 1990s to its first budget surplus in 2007/2008. The deficit is back and Manuel has called this his toughest budget ever. Will it be his last?
