Kelp Products has innovatively sought to reinvent itself through the "S curves" of the product lifecycle.

The original product technology, sustainable harvesting and the research repository are all examples of this. The maturity of the underlying technology has forced the company into the next stage of the product lifecycle: finding new international markets.

Kelp Products needs to keep initiating new growth in this lifecycle. And it may have to reinvent itself so that it can keep challengers out of its market.

Biotechnology firms, for example, may be able to copy the characteristic benefits of kelp and make them available in some other form.
