Sterling performance in SA property markets is nonetheless challenging some long-cherished beliefs about the fundamentals of property investing.

Commercial property prices failed to fall when interest rates rose, in spite of conventional wisdom. And a wobbling global financial market did little to deter steady interest from domestic and foreign investors.

The market is riding a wave of high demand and insufficient supply, and as long as that is the case, all bets are off when it comes to classical market behaviour.
