The results of a survey conducted by online recruitment company CareerJunction - as it recently launched its CareerJunction Index (CJI) - perhaps shed some light on the recruitment processes used in the education sector. Of the 27 job disciplines assessed for simplicity of recruitment, education is the easiest to recruit for in the online labour market.
CareerJunction's online labour market research unsurprisingly indicates that information technology and finance are the two most difficult industries to recruit for.
WHAT IT MEANS
Sectors such as education are easy to recruit for, unlike finance and IT

The special index is the first of its kind in SA and it examines the online labour market in terms of the supply of candidates versus the demand of job vacancies. The current CJI is 96,34 points for the period March 2008 to May 2008. This indicates a slight decline in demand and an increase in supply, meaning it is easier to recruit candidates as there is an increasing number of career seekers per available job.
CareerJunction has been the definitive source for job seekers in SA since 1997. About 1 000 firms nationwide advertise their jobs on CareerJunction and make use of the variety of services it offers.
The CareerJunction brand gives subscribing agencies the opportunity to search its database of more than 650 000 searchable resumés. In 2006 CareerJunction launched iTalent to offer an online recruitment solution for corporates.
"An increasing number of companies already use online recruitment to their advantage. They realise the significance of being able to leverage the power of their corporate brand together with the reach of the Internet to attract top-quality candidates. These companies are claiming considerable savings in their time and cost of hire and huge increases in the number of quality responses that they receive to their online job ads," says CareerJunction CEO Kris Jarzebowski.
The software has the capability to manage the entire recruitment process from the requisition stage to full response handling tools. It includes a permission-based security feature, full applicant tracking services and has been structured to handle local and global organisations. Already, more than 100 companies are using iTalent.
The iTalent product was developed in line with the requirements of the corporate market, and iTalent collaborated with leading brands such as SA Breweries to deliver the new product to market.
"I believe that our relationship has been a truly beneficial one for both SAB and iTalent, resulting in the development of SAB 's enviable database of active candidates, and the collaborative shaping of iTalent's current service offering," says Sharon du Plessis, senior human resources consultant at SAB.
CareerJunction attributes the growing success of iTalent to the benefits of renting technology.
"As an outsourced solution there is no need for a company to maintain the product themselves to keep up with technological advancements.
"The ongoing task of maintenance and development is managed by iTalent, with constant research into the latest trends. This ensures that we continue to provide leading cutting edge online recruitment technology for the recruitment and selection of the right candidates," Jarzebowski says.
